Professor Noboru Minakawa of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Featured in JICA’s “Mundi” Magazine

Professor Noboru Minakawa of the Institute of Tropical Medicine at Nagasaki University was featured in “Mundi,” a monthly magazine published by JICA.
In 2013, he was chosen by JICA for the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program for his Project for Establishment of an Early-warning System for Infectious Diseases in Southern Africa Incorporating Climate Predictions. (The grant concluded in 2018.)
Together with the Applied Centre for Climate and Earth System Studies (ACCESS) of South Africa, Professor Minakawa developed an early warning system for infectious disease outbreaks based on climate forecasts in an effort to effectively control infectious diseases. Other African countries, including Mozambique and Zimbabwe, have expressed interest in using this system’s malaria epidemic prediction model, and we look forward to further developments from Professor Minakawa and his team.
