Mohammed Shuaibu, Graduate of Nagasaki University, appointed as Global Alumni Network Ambassador

On October 9th 2024, an appointment ceremony was held for Prof. Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu, who received his degree from the Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and worked at the Institute of Tropical Medicine before becoming a professor and dean at Ahmadu Bello University in his home country of Nigeria, as an ambassador for NUGAN (Nagasaki University Global Alumni Network), an alumni association.

While he was a student, he established the Nagasaki University Foreign Student Association (NUFSA), the first international student community at Nagasaki University, and was passionate about mutual support activities to improve the lives of international students. He also established the Saturday Soccer Club, where international and Japanese students could develop friendships through soccer. These activities continue even after he left Japan.

In recent years, he has worked hard to establish a chapter of the NUGAN alumni association in Africa, and in February 2024, he launched the NUGAN Africa Chapter (continental wide) with alumni from not only Nigeria, but also Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and other countries, making a significant contribution to the expansion and enrichment of the alumni network.

The exchange between the Ahmadu Bello University and Nagasaki University, which resulted in the conclusion of an academic exchange agreement in 2019, is continuing to develop into an exchange at the university-wide. On the same day, a signing ceremony was held to renew the agreement, and the agreement was extended for five years, with the President of the Ahmadu Bello University, Kabiru Bala, and the President of Nagasaki University, Takeshi Nagayasu, signing the agreement.
