[NUGAN] Ugandan Traditional Dance Event Held

On Friday, June 12th, the “Ugandan Traditional Dance Event” was held at the Yeh Kuo-Shii Global Friendship Center on the Bunkyo Campus of our university.

The event began with opening remarks from Assistant Professor Taeko Moriyasu of the Global Education Division, Office for Global Affairs; following was a speech from H. E. Kaahwa Tophace, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to Japan; and a cultural introduction by Associate Professor Yasuaki Sato of the School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences.

The traditional dance that followed featured rhythmic and dynamic movements and audience participation through clapping and dancing. The performance offered audience members a rich experience of Ugandan culture. In addition, traditional Ugandan sweets called “Kabalagala,” which were handmade by students at the School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences, were served.

This event provided a valuable opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of African culture.

Nagasaki University Global Alumni Network (NUGAN) plans to hold a series of “Beyond Borders” events monthly throughout the 2026 academic year.
