On Tuesday, June 30th, a Rice Planting Experience Event was held at the farm on Nagasaki University’s Bunkyo Campus.
This event was held as part of a course offered by the Faculty of Education. Japanese and international students worked together to plant rice seedlings.
Although many students were initially hesitant to step into a muddy rice field, they soon get used to the rice field and enjoyed planting rice seedlings.
Through this hands-on experience, participants learned about Japanese agricultural culture and gained a deeper appreciation of both rice cultivation and the importance of food in our daily lives.
A rice harvesting event is also scheduled for October and will allow participants to experience the rice-growing process over a year’s time.
Nagasaki University Global Alumni Network (NUGAN) plans to hold a series of “Beyond Borders” events every month.
