NUGAN Thai Chapter Academic Meeting and Institutional Visits in Thailand

In September 2026, Nagasaki University visited the cities of Chiang Mai and Bangkok in Thailand to strengthen ties within the Nagasaki University Global Alumni Network (NUGAN) Thai Chapter and to exchange views with universities and partner organizations in the country.

On the 11th, Nagasaki University and the NUGAN Thai Chapter jointly hosted the “NUGAN Thailand Chapter Academic Meeting” at the Science and Technology Park of Chiang Mai University. During the meeting, video messages from President Nagayasu Takeshi of Nagasaki University, the President of Chiang Mai University, and the consul-general of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Fukuoka were played for attendees, and a representative of the Consulate-General of Japan in Chiang Mai delivered welcome remarks. The program also included a report on Thai Chapter activities, alumni experience sharing, and research presentations from faculty members at Nagasaki University and Chiang Mai University. Participants engaged in active discussions on future opportunities for collaborative research and student exchange. A reception held later that evening provided an opportunity for alumni and guests to reconnect and strengthen their professional networks.

During the visit, vice-principal Jan and other members of the Nagasaki University delegation also met with representatives of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), KOSEN-KMITL, and the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI). Discussions focused on potential research collaboration, student mobility, and educational exchange. At KMITL, both institutions confirmed their intention to continue discussions toward future collaboration and the development of academic exchange frameworks. At KOSEN-KMITL, participants exchanged views on opportunities for students in exchange and graduate study at Nagasaki University, while discussions at TNI focused on expanding educational and research cooperation based on existing partnerships.

Further on, the delegation also visited the JSPS Bangkok Office and SixERS ASEAN Platform (AP-SixERS) in Bangkok, where information was exchanged on recent trends in higher education, academic collaboration, and international student mobility in Thailand and the ASEAN region.

In addition, Nagasaki University participated in the “Study in Japan Fair” held in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. The university introduced its academic programs, student support services, and study opportunities, while also providing individual consultations to prospective students and their families.

Through this visit, Nagasaki University reaffirmed the important role the NUGAN Thai Chapter and its alumni network hold in promoting international collaborative research and student exchange. The visit also provided valuable opportunities to strengthen partnerships with universities and organizations in Thailand.
