NUGAN: Africa Chapter

Nagasaki University has accepted many students from Africa as government-sponsored or JICA scholarship students at its graduate schools.
A core actor in the formation of the alumni network in Africa is Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu, who obtained a degree from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Nagasaki University, worked at the Institute of Tropical Medicine until 2013, and then became a professor and dean at Ahmadu Bello University in his home country of Nigeria. When he was preparing to establish a branch of the alumni association in Nigeria, alumni from Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and other countries also joined, and in February 2024, the NUGAN Africa Branch (continental-wide) was established. The alumni make effective use of the network by holding seminars and academic exchange meetings where they can share the knowledge and experience they have cultivated in their respective fields and gain new insights.
Mr. Shuaibu has been appointed as a NUGAN ambassador, and he continues to advertise the presence of Nagasaki University in Africa.
