On Friday, January 24th, 2025, the 5th regular meeting between Nagasaki University and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was held at the university. The meeting was convened in accordance with the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement signed between the university and JICA in December 2019 and renewed in December 2024, and also served as an occasion for an inaugural address by Mr. Goto, the new Director of the JICA Kyushu Center.
The meeting was attended by six members of the JICA Kyushu Center and the Domestic Operations Division at the JICA Headquarters, including Director Goto, as well as twelve representatives from Nagasaki University, including President Nagayasu, Trustee Ito, and Professor Toyama of the Office for Global Affairs.
The meeting focused primarily on reaffirming the purpose of the partnership agreement and on the sharing of information from JICA (JICA Development Studies Program, JICA Global Agenda, long-term trainee contracts etc.) and from Nagasaki University (the Nagasaki Prefecture model of Human Resource Acquisition Programs from Bangladesh IT and other fields, etc.).
Furthermore, taking advantage of the visit, discussions were also held with key university departments involved in the collaboration, including the Institute of Tropical Medicine and the Graduate School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health.
