On Monday, January 26th, 2026, the 6th regular meeting between Nagasaki University and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was held at the university’s Bunkyo campus, in accordance with the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement signed between the University and JICA in December 2019 and renewed in December 2024.
Eight JICA representatives were present, including the Executive Advisor to the President and Director of JICA’s Kyushu Center, Mr. Goto. Twelve representatives from the University were also present, including President Nagayasu, Trustee Yasutake (Student Affairs and International Affairs), and Professor Toyama from the Office for Global Affairs.
During the meeting, participants shared opinions on recent collaboration activities, regional revitalization, Nagasaki University’s overseas research bases, methods of recruiting international talent, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Project to Strengthen Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities (J-PEAKS),” for which the university was selected in the 2024 academic year.
The two institutions shared on the progress each had made in international cooperation projects, and on educational and research collaborations they had initiated thus far; both parties also reaffirmed their intention to continue strengthening their collaborative framework.
Following the meeting at the Bunkyo campus, discussions were also held at the Sakamoto campus with the Graduate School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health and other related departments.
