Nagasaki University Students won the Silver Prize in the English Presentation Competition “What We Love about our University”

Two Nagasaki University students, Ms. Matsumoto Noa (2nd year, the School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences) and Ms. Ohta Yoshimi (2nd year, the Faculty of Education), won the Silver Prize in the English Presentation Competition “What We Love about our University” held online on December 14, 2021, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) “Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN.”

The event was co-hosted by the Consortium of Six National Universities in Japan (SixERS) and the Royal University of Phnom Penh, with the aim of providing an alternative opportunity for exchange between Japanese students and students from overseas universities, in the midst of the outbreak of COVID-19 that reduced chances for in-person exchange. Ms. Matsumoto and Ms. Ohta had prepared well for the presentation under the guidance of Prof. Hiroe Akira of the Center for Language Studies, Nagasaki University. Although they looked a little nervous on the event day, the two students completed their presentations without delay and enthusiastically introduced Nagasaki University’s unique initiatives such as “Planetary Health” or “Peace Education” to other participants. These two students study hard as sixth cohort students in the “Nagasaki Global + Course,” an inter-faculty special education program at Nagasaki University, so it is fair to say that their daily efforts have payed off.

Prof. Hiroe, who provided the presentation guidance to the students, said “Even though this presentation competition required somewhat different skills and methods of communication from those normally used in other presentations, the two students eagerly absorbed these skills and methods in the course of the preliminary guidance, and successfully put them into practice in their presentations.” The professor further continued “I believe these two students will be even more successful in their future academics.”

After the competition, Ms. Matsumoto and Ms. Ohta remarked “Through participating in this presentation competition, we were able to better understand the attractiveness of Nagasaki University, and we also improved our English ability. It was a very valuable experience and we developed a lot through it.” We are glad that participating in this competition was a meaningful experience for both students. Congratulations on winning the Silver Prize!
