Institute of Tropical Medicine Director Morita Kouichi Featured in JICA’s “Mundi” Magazine

Institute of Tropical Medicine Director Morita Kouichi was featured in “Mundi,” a monthly magazine published by JICA.
Nagasaki University and JICA have a long history of cooperating in the field of infectious disease control measures. Under “Development of Rapid Diagnostics and the Establishment of an Alert System for Outbreaks of Yellow Fever and Rift Valley Fever in Kenya” (2012-2017), a technical cooperation project in Kenya, Professor Morita worked with the Kenya Medical Research Institute to strengthen systems to contain outbreaks of Yellow Fever and Rift Valley Fever.
Currently, the Kenyan Ministry of Health is using mSOS, an infectious disease outbreak monitoring system that uses mobile phones, which was developed as part of a joint project with Nagasaki University.
While searching for more effective testing methods that are tailored to local conditions, these research results can be expected to be applied to the COVID-19 pandemic as well.
